How Much Confetti Do You Need for Your Wedding or Event?

One of the most common questions we’re asked is “How much confetti should I order?” The right amount depends on your guest count, the type of confetti you choose, and how you plan to use it on the day.

Here are our quick and easy steps to help you decide how much confetti you’ll need — with simple tips to avoid under- or over-ordering.

The Short Answer

For most weddings and celebrations, we recommend allowing one generous handful of confetti per guest for a ceremony exit or main confetti moment.

Tip - the exact amount depends on whether you’re using paper confetti or petal confetti, as each behaves differently.

Step 1: How Many Guests Will Use Confetti?

Only count guests who will be present for the confetti moment.

•    Ceremony guests = include all
•    Evening-only guests arriving later = exclude
•    Smaller, intimate weddings = you may need less overall

Step 2: Choose Your Confetti Type

Paper Confetti - lightweight, colourful and creates a dramatic throw — paper confetti is perfect for outdoor celebrations and statement confetti photos. Because paper confetti is very light, a little goes a long way visually.

Best for:

  • Bright, colourful confetti moments
  • Large guest numbers
  • Indoor or outdoor use

Petal confetti - Soft, natural and elegant, making it ideal for venues that require biodegradable or natural confetti. Petals are slightly heavier than paper, so guests tend to use a little more per handful.

Best for:

  • Outdoor ceremonies
  • Church and venue-approved confetti
  • Romantic, natural styling

Step 3: How Will the Confetti Be Handed Out?

How you hand out your confetti affects how much guests use.

  • Cones or envelopes: Guests usually take one handful
  • Baskets or bowls: Guests often take bigger handfuls, requiring you to double up

Step 4: Indoor vs Outdoor Confetti Use

  • Outdoor confetti moments: Confetti disperses quickly — ordering slightly more is recommended
  • Indoor venues: Often require smaller amounts and may have strict clean-up rules

Tip - Always check with your venue before ordering!

Should You Order Extra Confetti?

If you’re deciding between two quantities, we usually recommend ordering slightly more rather than less.

Any extra confetti can be:

  • Sprinkled on party tables
  • Used for impromptu photos with your bridesmaids and groomsmen
  • Kept as a keepsake from the day
